I don't know who owns the Leather Souls acetate. There are (or were when I last investigated 10 years ago) about 5 serious collectors of Australian records in various locations throughout Australia. Usually, these collectors have no interest in any particular genre such as garage music, everything "rock" and "pop" is equally collectible as far as they are concerned. Sometimes it's numeric sequences of labels, or just Australian pressings in general which excites them. Mostly their collections were assembled via raids on radio stations disposing of their vinyl with the advent of digital sound in the early 80s. I imagine that other gems and acetates could be filed away, unappreciated in these mega collections.

I assume it's in the hands of one of those guys.

In answer to the questions about compiling the unknown sides - most of the best stuff is already available. A comp series containing ONLY previously uncomped AUS/NZ sides would probably be of interest only to diehard fans and enthusiasts. Some very well researched and informed guys have spent a lot of time sorting out the best Aussie garage discs for comps already.

I would love to take on a project in the future, but there's no way I can commit to anything at all right now. Various factors have combined this year to severely limit the time I have available for vinyl transfers etc., and I just don't have any free time apart from helping Mike. This situation will definitely change in the future. Label scans are easy 'cause I already have them on hand, haha!

Glad you're enjoying it Mr. Pfft. It should be noted that both sides of discs are always shown, regardless of the musical merit of the flip. This is considered uncouth in some circles, but the way I see it, you may be interested to see the disc the way it exists. When I get time, I'll list the flips which are non-garage, or just plain atrocious.

Pfft!

I heartilly agree. Fantastic thread. And, I suppose this would be an appropriate thread to mourn the fact that I was outbid on a Challenge 45 this week. I gotta stop being so cheap, but it was only listed as VG.

Go!! - A very consistently good label, all below can be recommended with the probable exception of 18th Century Quartet, both of which are on the remotest borderline of garage (at least as far as I'm concerned). Mysteriously missing from the collection is the Cherokees "Little Lover" / "The Thought Of You" (Go!! G5034).
